What is Popular Vote Movement?
The popular vote movement is a means to allow majority votes to go in one direction, while deciding about presidential contests in the United States.
It is mean in which the state allocates all of the votes to one particular candidate in case the same is in similar majority with 50 other states and the District of Columbia.
The proposed move, would end a regime in which those people who are in minority across major states may still win the presidential elections as happened in 2016.
The name thus, suggests that the candidate being selected is popular across all states and thus gets elected as the president of the United States of America by majority. The minority vote in this case is specific to the state itself and has no value if the majority representation is similar across all states which participate in the movement.
Agree or Disagree:-
The United State is one of the world’s largest democracies in which each vote counts as part of the electoral process. People express themselves easily by the candidate they vote for during an election. This practice has been pioneered by the country and is readily followed by many other nations today.
In my opinion, the end product of a popular vote movement would fail miserably. People tend to know if their candidate is popular or not, and incase not they would prefer not to vote as it would anyways go to the candidate which is more popular due to the state choosing to rule all votes in their favor.
A strategy that considers the vote of the majority people of a state as an entire representation of the state itself is incorrect. The minority of a state can become a majority if similar people exist across the country.
In my opinion therefore, this movement provides an extra right to some people just because they are in majority which is biased and uncalled for. The United States must protect this basic nature in which it considers all people to be equal.
