myocardial infarction is the condition where the loss of blood flow through coronary arteries results in cardiac muscle ischemia and necrosis leading to heart shut down.

While attending a patient with myocardial infarction, following assessments can be adapted-

Assessment related to acute pain- the assessment related to acute chest pain should be included

Monitor and document the characterstics of acute chest pain, restlessness, breathlessness and vital signs.

Interventions- provide calm enviornment, relaxation techniques, guided imagery, and administer medication as prescribed.

Identify patient's anxiety level and expression related to increased fear of death.

Note presence of hostility, withdrawal and denial of the patient and assess fear.

Intervention- orient patient to routine procedure and possible activities, interact well, calm the patient, and guide on breathing exercises.

Assess risk of decreased cardiac output, for this evaluate quality of pulse, and auscultate BP.

Limit caffeine intake, provide small meals and have emergency equipment available.
