Vertical gene transfer is transfer of gene between parents or organism to offspring while horizontal genetic transfer is placed between two organism that is not its parents and a member of different species.

Vertical gene transfer occurs from parents to offsprings while horizontal green transfer occurs between two unrelated organisms

Vertical gene transfer occurs through either sexual or asexual reproduction while horizontal genetic transfer occurs through transformation, transduction or Conjugation.

Vertical gene transfer is transfer of whole genome whole horizontal gene transfer is transfer of few genes.

Vertical gene transfer is inherentance of parental traits while horizontal gene transfer is introduction of new genes to adult organism.
