  FOOD PROCESSING

  Processed foods are the foods that are prepared through physical or chemical treatment which result in food being significantly different from its original state. This process is known as food processing.

A processed food that might be a sausage made from a mixture of meats or a canned meal that has had added salts and other substances in order to help give it longevity. The processed foods can be distributed to highly processed, minimally processed and processed foods. The processing methods are performed through a wide range of chemical agents such as enzymes.

SOCIETY THAT CONSUMES PROCESSED FOOD:

Researchers found that more than others American society is the most processed food consuming society . General population eats more ultra processed foods. Among world wide the busy people mostly consumes processed foods. In fact the preschoolers and schoolers consuming a big amount of processed food.

REASONS OF CONSUMING PROCESSED FOOD:

Chopped, frozen and canned foods in natural juices or water are therefore good alternatives for busy people having limited time for shop for or cook from a fresh produce.

Less processed foods such as frozen fruits and vegetables provide valuable sources of nutrition, with greater convenience and lower price .

Better taste because of the added flavourings.

THE PROCESSED FOOD SHOULD BE AVOID OR REDUCE BECAUSE OF :

Many forms of processing will reduce the amount of bio availability of vitamins and minerals that are crucial to health.

The added salt in many processed foods can result in cramping water retention and in extremes - heart damage.

It's hard to tell the quality of foods because of the added flavourings.

Many companies will try to disguise their true motive and make their refined foods sounds healthier than they in fact are. For example, if we read that something is 'rich in vitamin c' then note that this is usually means tht the vitamin c is synthetic and our body will be less able to absorb it.

Some processed foods that contains less fibre and higher levels of fat, added sugar and salt are best consumed occasionally. For example, canned savoury foods and cured meats are often high in salt.

The World Cancer Research Fund advises to eat very little processed meat . because it is treated to improve its storage life or enhance flavour with common processing techniques including salting, curing and smoking with bacon, sausages or smoked ham as typical example. The consumption of processed meat in different population varies between 2% and 65%. The studies investigated the link between the consumption of processed meats with cancer especially bowel cancer.

CONCLUSION:

A healthy diet means eating a variety of nutritious foods from different food groups including fresh fruits and vegetables, grains and cereals, proteins, diary and healthy fats. Most foods consumed now- a -days are processed atleast to some degree. When chosen mindfully , processed foods can be incoperated into a healthy and balanced diet.
