(b) Which measures of central tendency are preferred for each variable? Why? (Hint:Use frequency histogram)
(c) Find the sample variance, standard deviation, and range for each variable.
(d) Describe the logical population and sample for this study. (There can be different reasonable answers with respect to the population. The question is, what total set of measurements is this data set intended to represent?)
(b) Which measures of central tendency are preferred for each variable? Why? (Hint:Use frequency histogram)
Ans:
The variables Quality and Color are preferred to be used the mean measures of central tendency because both the datasets have near to symmetric without outlier observations.
The variables pH, Total So2 and Color Density are preferred to use the median measures of central tendency because pH has negative skewness, and Total So2 and Color Density have outlier with positive skewness. Hence, the median is not influenced by the skewness as well as an outlier.
(c) Find the sample variance, standard deviation, and range for each variable.
Ans:
Variable | StDev | Variance | Range |
Quality | 1.998 | 3.992 | 7.7 |
pH | 0.1291 | 0.0167 | 0.51 |
Total So2 | 61.2 | 3748.8 | 279 |
Color Density | 2.548 | 6.494 | 9.25 |
Color | 1.594 | 2.542 | 5.45 |
(d) Describe the logical population and sample for this study.
Ans: The logical population for these variables is normal whereas some of the samples do not show the normal characteristics.

The measures of central tendency have been reported for three different social service agencies for the variable number of years employed in the agency as follows: Agency Mode Median Mean A 16 17 16 B 4 7 10 C 1 3 6 Use the measures of central tendency to describe and compare the staff of the three agencies. (5 pts) 7. Fifteen students were registered in Section 1 and 15 students were registered in Section 2 of a research course....
52.1 Three primary statistics are used to describe a variable's central tendency, defined as the average behavior of the variable. You can use these statistics, known as the mean, the median, and the mode, to draw meaningful conclusions about a variable's past behavior and to predict its future behaviar An investor is considering a stock with the following returns over the past 12 years: Year Annual Return Year Annual Return 12 10 12 The mean, also known as the arithmetic...

1. A perennial stream is a stream that has water flowing in it all the time. The data set presented in Table 1 represents a sample of stream flows in a perennial stream for a 45-day period. These stream flows were measured using a flow meter that has a precision of + 0.1 Cfs. Find the following statistical parameters for the sample data given in Table 1 a. Central Tendency i. Mean the average value of the random variable. ii....

Use C++ For this week’s lab you will write a program to read a data file containing numerical values, one per line. The program should compute average of the numbers and also find the smallest and the largest value in the file. You may assume that the data file will have EXACTLY 100 integer values in it. Process all the values out of the data file. Show the average, smallest, largest, and the name of the data file in the...
