What is the intervention of micro (patient, family) in stroke prevention

stroke is a preventable disease in comparing with other disease conditions.it can be preventable by simply controlling hypertension. there are four types of prevention, primordial prevention (prevent the development of risk factors of stroke), primary prevention (prevent the occurrence of stroke), secondary prevention(prevent recurrence of stroke) and tertiary prevention( to prevent disability or to rehabilitate patient).

patient and family can actively participate in primordial and primary prevention.

primordial prevention

In primordial prevention patient and family can prevent or delay the development of risk factors of stroke. preventive measures should begin in their young age by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, avoiding smoking and other addiction, thus can reduce the risk of developing hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, which will prevent not only stroke but other fatal conditions like myocardial infarction, renal failure, and so on.

interventions

• if family history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus, or any other genetic disease, a routine checkup is advisable after 30 years of age.
• include high fibre diet of vegetables and fruits.
• Avoid red meat, excess salt and sweet, cold drinks and fast foods
• regular exercise
• maintain normal sleep.
• avoid mental stress by spending leisure time with family and friends

primary prevention

if a person develops hypertension or diabetes mellitus, again he/she has some options to reduce the occurrence of stroke by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and family members can also help them to maintain a balanced diet and stress-free environment.Also, the patient has to follow the advice of their physician.
