Answer #1

1. 2 H atoms make hydrogen molecule (H2).

2. 1s orbitals of both linearly combined (LCAO) to give 2 molecular orbitals.

3. One molecular orbital which is formed by constructive overlapping called bonding molecular orbital and overlapping takes place head on, forms sigma bonding molecular orbital sigma 1s, low energy orbital.

4.Other high energy molecular orbital which is formed by distructive overlapping called anti-bonding molecular orbital and overlapping takes placeside wise, forms sigma antibonding molecular orbital sigma* 1s,High energy orbital.

5. 1 electron from each in 1s orbital of H, therefore 2 electrons after formation of molecular orbitals will be occupied in 1s sigma bonding M.O.

threrefore config. will be sigmab 1s2 sigma* 1s0
