Answer #1

A molecule is said to be water soluble when it dissolves in water when mixed. This can be attributed to the fact that any polar molecule will dissolve in a polar solvent since the interaction between them will increase when mixed together.

Among the options stearic acid has a -COOH group hence is polar but the large hydrocarbon group makes it overall non polar

On the other side CCl4 is non polar due to no dipole moment and octane is a large non polar molecule due to it's hydrophobic large chain

Now we are left with glucose. It is soluble in water as it contains hydroxyl group (5 in number) to interact with H2O.

So the correct option is (C)
