Cumulative dividends are paid to cumulative shareholders. Cumulative preferred shares are the shares which carry certain rights regarding payment of dividends. In case of cumulative preferred shares, if n any year, dividend payment is missed by the company, then their dividends gets accumulated and will be paid in future years before any dividend is paid to common shareholders. In this way they are entitled to arrears of dividend also. Common shareholders will be paid after all the claims (current and previous years') of preferred shareholders are paid.
