Question

Some traits of plants and animals depend on inheritance of a single gene. This is called Mendelian inheritance, after Gregor Mendel (1822-1894). Each of us has an ABo blood type, which deseribes whether two characteristics, called A and B, are present. Every one of us has two blood type alleles (gene forms), one inherited from our mother and one from our father. Eech of these alieles cen be A, B, or O. Which two we inherit determines our blood type. Here is a table that shows what our bloed type is for esch combination of two aleles Alleles inherited Blood type A and A A and B A and O s and B AB O and O We inverit each of a parems two alieles with probebility O.5.We inherit indrgendently from our mother and father Emily and Michael both have alees O and o (a) What biood types can their children have (Select all that apply (b) What is the probablity that their next crild tas each of these blood types?

Answer #1

Ans (a) O (b) P(A) - P(A and A) + P(A and o) - 0.52+0.52 -0.5 Since we inherit independently from our mother and father P(AB)

a.) ABO blood types are determined by a single gene with 3 alleles. Alleles A (IA) and B (IB) are co-dominant to allele O (i). Cecilia, a woman with blood type A whose father and mother both had blood types AB, marries a man named Joseph. Joseph has blood type B. Joseph’s mother had blood type O.   What is Cecilia’s genotype with respect to blood type? b.) ABO blood types are determined by a single gene with 3 alleles. Alleles...

With respect to genetics, ABO blood types are controlled by a single gene designated I, which has three alleles. The I A allele gives blood type A, I B gives blood type B, and i gives blood type O. The I A and I B alleles are codominant and i allele is recessive to both the I A and I B alleles. Aside from the I alleles, there are two other genes that when mutated affect ABO blood type inheritance....

Multiple Allele Problems (Characteristics That Have More Than Two Possible Forms of the Same Geno) 15. In humans, there are three alleles for blood type: A, B, and O. The allele for blood type A and the allele for blood type B show incomplete dominance. A person with both alleles has blood type AB. Both A and B dominate type 0. A person with alleles for blood types A and O marries someone with alleles for blood types Band O....

AL11 Activity 4: Multiple alleles with Codominance 1. Some traits in a population are determined by multiple alleles. For example, there are three alleles for Mood type in the human population (type A), P type B). and i lypeo). Different combinations of these alleles (each individual can inherit only two alleles) produce the four different blood types (phenotypes) that we are familiar with Based upon the symbols alone, what can you predict about the relationships between each of the following...

As you may remember from basic biology, the human A/B/O blood type system is controlled by one gene for which 3 variants (“alleles”) are common in the human population – unsurprisingly called A, B, and O. As with most genes, everyone has 2 copies of this gene, one inherited from the mother and the other from the father, and everyone passes a randomly selected copy to each of their children (probability 1/2 for each copy, independently for each child). Focusing...

the two cream colored guinea pigs produced, in one case, 22 yellow. 47cream, and 19 white. What type of inheritance is this? II. Sex-linked Characteristics 12. In man, colorblindness, an inability to distinguish between red and green, is inherited as a sex-linked character on the X chromosome. It is recessive. If a colorblind man marries a homozygous normal woman what chance is there for the children of being colorblind? If a normal man marries a colorblind woman. where will colorblindness...
