Explain what is meant by a manager's power base, the ways a manager develops it, and how a manager can effectively use it to achieve organizational and personal goals.

Power is the ability of individual do something to reach the goal. Official power depends on reward, coercion,sanction given by the superior. Personal power depends on trust and assurance. Power base are reward, coercive, referent,expert and legitimacy.

Reward power: Reward power is provided to the employees to their high levelperformance. Employees have feeling that they are the means of end of their managers. This reduce the motivation and work.

Coercive : It is type of punishment to employee based on lower performance. It result discouragement, stress, emotional conflict. So reduce the productivity.

Legitimate power:It emphasis managers efficiency in decision making based on ranking and organizational level. Constant use of this power causes discouragement and indifference.

Referent power: It is charismatic power based on the emotional segment.

Expert power : It is most important source of power of an organization. It is based on experience, expertise and knowldge.

Appropriate and timely manage the power base by the managers are essential to achieve the goals.
