What are the three components of the DRI?

The three components of DRI are

• RDA - Recommended dietary allowance
• AI - Adequate Intake
• UL - Upper Intake Level

Describe how RDA, AI, and UL influence health?

• RDA shows the recommended level of nutrients for a particular group of people to meet the required dietary needs. It sets the average daily requirements of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals for a particular group of people.
• AI is the average recommended intake of the nutrients by a healthy individual. It is calculated on the basis of the daily intake.
• UL is the upper intake of nutrient taken by an individual that does not cause an effect on the health. As the nutrient increases than the required amount, it causes an adverse effect on the population.

After reviewing your results on the Interactive DRI, how well are you meeting the RDAs suggested?

After reviewing my results, I almost met the RDA's recommendations. My daily intake met the recommended carbohydrates and proteins. But I am lack in the intake of some of the vitamins and minerals. As per DRI I need to drink 3.5 litres of water daily, But I am consuming only 3 liters of water. Otherwise I am meeting the RDA's suggestion.

What two changes can you make to improve?

• I should improve my daily intake of vitamins and minerals, fruits and vegetables, as per RDA suggestion.
• I should drink the recommended intake of water of at least 3.5 litres of water.
