Answer #1

There are several health issues that equally affect men and women and certain other health problems may affect men and women differently. Here a health issue that occurs more commonly among women than men is discussed.

1. Breast cancer occurs in women and rarely in men. This type of cancer develops in the breasts and occurs as a result of uncontrollable and abnormal division of cells in breast tissues. Some of the common signs and symptoms of breast cancer include appearance of lump in the breast, pain in breast or nipple, retraction of nipple, discharge from nipple, redness of breast skin, breasts appearing scaly or thickened, itchy breasts, peeling of nipple skin, etc. Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women and is estimated that about 2.1 million women globally are impacted by it each year and is also related to a high number of cancer related deaths. Incidence of breast cancer varies greatly worldwide and is considered to be more common in developed countries though 58% of deaths occur in less developed countries. Like any type of cancer, treatment of breast cancer also depends on the stage and type of cancer and hence, early diagnosis is the key for successful treatment and some of the treatment procedures include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, biological therapy, and surgical procedure to remove cancer tissues.

2. Managing breast cancer is crucial and hence should take utmost care once treatment is started and even after one is cancer free. Some of the modes of managing breast cancer include limiting alcohol intake, avoiding smoking, controlling weight, being physically active, avoiding radiation exposure, maintain dosage of hormones during hormone therapy with physician’s advice, avoiding birth control pills, avoiding post-menopausal hormones, and following a healthy nutritious diet. Routine and regular screening is also recommended in order to avoid future risk of cancer.
