Yes , it happens in the same molecule.

Let us understand this with a suitable example

KMnO4 is a beautiful purple coloured compund even though it has no unpaired electron because Mn is in its highest oxidation state i.e. +7 . This is because in this case charge transfer from ligand i.e. filled 2p orbital of oxygen to metal i.e. empty d-orbital of Mn takes place.
