It has the efficiency to balance the experience of pain and to tend symptoms that activate or aggravate pain like anxiety, sleep disturbances, etc. Adjuvant analgesics are more effective for neuropathic and pain ailments.

Antidepressants such as amitriptyline are given in Rheumatoid arthritis. It helps in relieving pain caused by arthritis. Antidepressants help to raise the level of chemicals like serotonin at nerve endings hindering pain signals.
