At the top of the first page of your assignment, type the following information in the upper le ft-hand corner Last Name, First Name Student Number STAT 260 Assignment 1 Section Number (A0I/A02) Scenario: We wish to compare the midterm scores of two sections of a particular stats class. Both sections wrote midterms out of 50 possible points Morning Section Marks: 39 35 39 39 40 37 41 39 42 40 37 35 38 36 40 35 38 36 39 35 38 35 39 38 41 39 38 40 38 41 41 37 34 41 37 41 35 39 36 41 Evening Section Marks: 35 47 29 34 26 34 38 45 44 49 37 37 37 37 40 26 29 30 23 38 32 36 45 39 31 42 41 35 34 43 31 30 37 36 33 Note: These observations are also available in a text file on the Coursespaces page page as single columns, if you wish to make use of the scan() function. Part 1 (3 marks) Create side-by-side histograms of the two sets of marks. The x-axis for the histogram should have appropriate labels. Copy and paste this histogram into your Word document. Comment on the shape of the two distributions. Part 2 (3 marks) Use R to calculate the mean and standard deviation of the marks for the two sections. Copy and paste the relevant commands and output from the R Console Window into your Word document. Part 3 (2 marks) In your opinion, which class appears to have done better? Write one or two sentences explaining your opinion. You should make reference to the relevant features of the two data sets (eg. mean, median, the spread of the data, minimum/maximum values, etc.) Part 4 (2 marks) Calculate the empirical probability of attaining a mark over 45 for each section. Part 5 (3 marks) Write an R program to calculate the mean and standard deviation for both sections, without using the R functions mean), sd0, or var). Hint: use the function sum0.
