Ans) The second theory I used was Block and Josten's Ethical Theory of population. It has three elements: obligation to the population, the primacy of prevention, and centrality of relationship-based care.
Every nurse can be a community health nurse if they embody those three elements.
- Derryl Block and Lavohn Josten, public health educators proposed this based on intersecting fields of public health and nursing. They have given 3 essential elements of population focused nursing that stem from these 2 fields:
• an obligation to population
• the primacy of prevention
• centrality of relationship- based care
• the first two are from public health and the third element from
nursing. Hence it implies to nursing that relation-based care is
very important in population focused care.
Relation to COVID:
- Americans should be prepared for the possibility of a COVID-19 outbreak in their community. The community can take measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
- Currently a vaccine or drug is not available for COVID-19. Community-based interventions such as school dismissals, event cancellations, social distancing, and creating employee plans to work remotely can help slow the spread of COVID-19. Individuals can practice everyday prevention measures like frequent hand washing, staying home when sick, and covering coughs and sneezes.
- Decisions about the implementation of community measures will be made by local and state officials, in consultation with federal officials as appropriate, and based on the scope of the outbreak and the severity of illness. Implementation will require extensive community engagement, with ongoing and transparent public health communications.

How does diversity in communities and within the nursing workforce relate to the theory of complex adaptive systems? In addition, how does the diffusion of innovations theory explain some of the disparities in accessibility to innovations in healthcare and how can nursing influence the diffusion lag?

The "COVID-19 Animation" video simplifies what happens inside your lungs during a Corona virus infection. The replicating virus does not directly fill your lung alveoli with fluid (i.e. a virus does not create fluids). Based on what you have learned about virus replication and your immune system, why does a patient with Corona virus get fluid in their alveoli in their lungs?
