-Imagine that one of your relatives known to have a peanut allergy recently gave birth to a baby and told you she would never feed her child peanuts until 6 years of age. Would you share with her this new research on pediatric allergies? Why or why not?

-Why do you think it was so difficult for many parents in the pediatric allergy studies to follow for 1 year the schedule for introducing the potentially allergenic foods?

-Other than a family history of food allergies, what are other factors that increase the risk of food allergies for children? For example, does income, race, geography, or healthy history of the child make a difference? Go online to review the research and help you identify risk factors.

Answer #1

1 Yes,Food allergy affects approximately 6% to 8% of children under the ages of 3 and can lead to significant medical complications. So it is necessary that parents have awarenesss about it.

2. Having a child with a food allergy can be very anxiety producing for the parents.;they often live in fear that the child may accidently ingest an allergen. There maybe some hidden allergens in certain foods and therefore families need to be extremely careful when reading food labels.it often happens that most of the parents have a lack of knowledge regarding how to avoid allergen exposure and manage allergic reactions.

3 The extent of the allergic response is determined by the duration ,rate and amount of exposure to the allergen as well as environmental and host factors. When the antibody is exposed to the antigen, rapid cell activation occurs and potent mediators and cytokines are released ,resulting in changes in the blood vessels, bronchi and mucus-secreting glands.
