Why do we need laws such a natural process as Breast feeding? What do these laws Reflect about our nation?

Part one: Section 7 of the fair labor standards act of 1938 ( 29 U.S.C 207) is Amended by adding at the end the following.

Employer shall provide- reasonable break time for an employee to express breast milk for her nursing child for a year after the Child’s birth. A place other than a bathroom that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from coworkers and the public, for privacy to pump for breast milk, if employer has less then 50 employee’s the are not required to follow such requirements.

We need these laws to ensure children are getting the breast milk they need for nutrition,

Breast milk contains antibodies that help your baby fight off viruses and bacteria.

Breast feeding lowers your baby’s risk of having asthma, or allergies

These laws reflect we have a good start but have a way to go, a woman should be allowed to breast feed no matter what with 50 employee’s or not so we have a way to go but it is a good start.

Part two:

In the Air Force and Army women are ineligible for deployment for six months after giving birth and 12 months in the Navy and Marine Corps.

The story “Breastfeeding During Military Deployment.” Was of an Air force the story of Captain B having to struggle to get her baby breast milk, she was deployed 7 months after giving birth, it should be deferred deployment for all women for at least a year after giving birth, but the perfect amount of time would be a year and half. This just goes to show the sacrifice service members go through to protect our country.

The US laws and policies are framed in order to promote better health, wellbeing and safety to all the individuals residing in the nation. The introduction of this Breast feeding Law is one example of such initiative. The law states that every professionally working women should have right to express breast milk to her baby till one year after birth. For this the employer and the organization should support the women by providing appropriate space and calm enviornment as well as emotional support.

The introduction to this law shows that the nation and government is taking initiative to foster and empower women and their rights towards their children. It also shows that the regulations are framed keeping in mind the effectiveness and benefits of breast feed for a child and their basic human right as a human being.

Moreover, another scenario of airforce workers is identified where the women workers are deployed for 7 months after birth and face extreme issues and difficulties in feeding their child after that. This scenario is seen to have some implications to improvement. The service workers are there to help the nation with their services keeping aside their personal agendas, but this right should be provided to every women irrespective of their job and status and should be universally accepted.

Moreover, I feel that the basic feeding time for the normal baby should be one to one and a half year and during this time every organization, services and employer should provide a good space, and opportunity and support to women to be able to breast feed their child.
