When a women is anxious during pregnancy the following effects can be observed like preterm birth,the baby can underweigh,increased risk for abortion, the women may risk themselves to use alcohol or smoke which can directly affect the health of fetus resulting in fetal alcohol syndrome after birt.The ADHD risk also increases if a mother is anxious.Depression during pregnancy can lead to increased risk for postpartum depression. This can even lead to irritability.This can affect the appetite,insomnia, self harming behavior, isolated during pregnancy ,showing no interest ,low birth weight babies.
Postpartum period
The effects of anxiety and depression in the postpartum period can make the mother to have a poor attachment with the baby ,inadequate or lack of breast feeding, The child when grows may have increased temperament, impaired child development,conflicts in family life. It can affect the mother's overall health status and decrease the bond with the baby called postpartum depression.
