Patient instruction for 24 hour urine collection.

* Instruct the patient to start the 24 hour urine collection by directly urinating it into the toilet and to flush it, specially if the 24 hour collection is starting after wake up from bed .

* Instruct to note the first void time exactly .

* Instruct the client not to take any alcohol beverages ,tea or caffeinated drinks in between the sample collection .

* Instruct the client to pass the urine in the special pan that fits in the toilet or in the urinal and instruct to transfer immediately to the 24 hour urine container.

* Instruct not to collect the urine directly in the 24 hour container.

* Instruct the patient to collect every drop of urine during the day and night .

* Instruct to keep the container in a place provided or in the room temperature .

* Instruct the client to collect the urine if any urine passed with the bowel movement .advice try not include feaces with urine collection

* Instruct the patient to report if there is any forgetting for collecting some of the urine .

* Instruct ,try to urinate for the last time when the 24 hours gets ended .

* Instruct to close the container tightly with the cap .

# it is very important to check for onetime that the client has clearly understand the instructions which was given .

It is very necessary to collect all the 24 hour sample exactly ,if the sample was not collected completely creatinine clearance should be falsely decreased and protein evaluation will not able to complete properly.

Instruction regarding avoidance of caffeine tea and alcohol is necessary because these may increase the frequency of urine and provide false kidney function .

False storage and transport of sample result in false result and rejection of sample .

Knowledge regarding to discard the first urine of 24 hour is necessary ,because first urine in the morning is highly concentrated and have abnormalities.

Poor understanding regarding sample collection will totally affect the sample result .because this is an important test to assess the kidney function .inappropriate collection and storage may result in changes in creatinine clearance ,protein levels and also changes arise in the levels of hormones
