1. Type of sample collection :-

#. First Morning/Fasting

- Patient voids before sleeping.

- 1st void is collected the next morning. This is used because it is the most concentrated.

- This is used for checking blood glucose and also pregnancy testing.

#. Post Prandial

- Used for glucose testing.

- Patient eats a full meal than voids 2hrs. Later. This is done along with a 2hr. PP Blood sugar.

#. 24 hr urine sample

- To evaluate kidney function.

- Specimen is collected for a full 24 hour period.

- Start AM and collect every specimen including following first morning specimen.

- Send labeled specimen to lab for analysis with request slip.

#. Sample collection procedure :-

Midstream " Clean Catch"

- Purpose: To determine the type of bacteria and drug used for treatment.

- Patient washes external genitalia with an antiseptic wipe.

- Provide a sterile container, instructing the patient not to touch the inside of the cap or container.

- Place the cap face up on a clean surface.

- Patient is instructed to void a small amount, hold, and catch the remaining urine in the sterile container ( mid stream collection).

- Label specimen container with patient's name, date, type of specimen, and time collected. Place in plastic bag with lab requisition.

- SEND IMMEDIATELY TO LAB FOR ANALYSIS, OTHERWISE SPECIMEN MUST BE REFRIGERATED UNTIL PROCESSED.

#. It is important for the patient to thoroughly understand and comply with the instructions because otherwise the sample will be contaminated and would cause false results and impact the treatment.

2. Documentation - The collected urine sample of the patient resembles cloudy , it's pH is 7.5 , contains traces of red blood cells , nitrates and leukocytes .
