1. D5/w is an Isotonic solution

D5/0.45% NaCl is a hypotonic solution

Isotonic solution means a solution having the same concentration of solutes as human blood. Hypotonic solutions are having low solute content in it .

2. Intravenous fluid therapy is an important part of post operative management as it can prevent the patient from Dehydration. Patient is in a condition that he is not able to take anything orally. So it is necessary that he has to receive IV fluids to maintain the fluid and electrolyte balance.

3. Enteral nutrition refers to the nutrition received through enteral route. The word Enteral refers to intestine. Any nutrition that reaches intestine is enteral nutrition. Enteral nutrition is less costly and efficient than parenteral nutrition. It helps to maintain the functions of gut. Especially in case of patients , who undergone upper GI tract surgery need enteral nutrition. To prevent malnutrition and underfeeding enteral nutrition is very important for post operative abdominal surgery patients.MM need short term enteral therapy .
