the mechanisms that streptococcus mutans, helicobacter pylori, e.colli and staphylococcus aureus and taenia solium utilize to cause disease in the digestive tract. in addition, list and explain the host immune defenses that microbes would have to overcome to be successful at causing disease.

Streptococcus mutans is the causal organism for dental caries. It is a common member of the dental flora and has the ability to form dextran from glucose and lactic acid from fructose. These bacteria infect teeth by adhering to the surface of the teeth.

Helicobacter pylori is the bacteria that causes peptic ulcers.

H. pylori does not cause ulcers in every infected person is not known.

The H. pylori bacteria weakens the protective mucous coating of the stomach and duodenum, thus allowing acid to get through to the sensitive lining beneath.

Both the acid and the bacteria irritate the lining and cause a sore, or ulcer.

E.coli causes diarrhea in large intestine.

Staphylococcus aureus irritates the GI walls, so that it causes vomiting.

Taenia solium is a parasite that causes taeniasis. This worms destructs the intestinal wall causes to GI bleeding.
