Such alterations may include blood volume, heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, and systemic vascular resistance. It is the process of accepting the pregnancy and adjusting to the changes within her body and her life.

3. attaching or "binding-in" to the child refers to the development of maternal-fetal attachment

4. giving of oneself to the demands of being a mother refers to the mother's willingness and effort to make personal sacrifices for the child
