what is the normal stomach residual and ph? what action should a nurse take if its abnormal?
what is the normal wound (blood )drain?
what should a nurse know about intake and output (about normal, abnormal, reporting etc)?
Answer: The normal stomach pH is 1.5 to 3.5.
If the pH of the stomach is abnormal that means there the greater the hydrogen ions concentration the greater will be the acidic solution. Nurse should intervene the pH of the stomach to know about the abnormalities as if it a more alkaline or acidic. Because the acidic will lead to ulceration of the stomach walls i.e. more HCl secretion. Nurse should monitor the pH and if necessary provide medication such as proton pump inhibitors which reduces the high ph.
The normal wound drainage means the complete or the partially drained blood along with inflammation.
