1. Stroke occurs when there is inadequate flow of blood to the parts brain.

It is of two different types:

- ischaemic stroke

- hemorrhagic stroke

Ischaemic stroke is also known as ' silent cerebral infarction' . It occurs due to presence of blood clot on the brain which will interrupt the blood flow to the brain.

2. Thrombotic stroke is a type of stroke which is caused by the blood clot which is formed in one of the arteries which supplies blood to the brain . It can be caused by deposits of fat, atherosclerosis or any other conditions related to arteries.

Atherosclerosis is because it will be having a clot formed in the vessels which will ultimately cause the blockage in the brain.

Hypertension because the arteries will be constructed because of the disease condition which will lead to blood vessel constriction on the brain causing stroke.

Diabetes mellitus because it causes cerebral vascular diseases as a complication which can lead to thrombotic stroke.

3. Embolic stroke is a type of stroke which is caused by the travel of an emboli which is formed elsewhere in the body and travels to the brain.

Because during the heart surgery, there is a high chance of getting carotid stenosis post operative. Some might get due to disease in carotid arteries and few because of ipsilateral carotid occlusion.
