Rewrite the text in past tense

Use only third person, passive voice, e.g.: “Thirty grams of naphthalene was added 50 mL of m-xylene in a 250 mL round bottomed flask.”

Experimental Procedure

1. Set up a simple distillation apparatus.
2. Add 16 g (16.7 mL) of cyclohexanol and 4 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid to the round bottom
flask. Caution: Sulfuric acid is highly corrosive. Use caution and appropriate personal
protective equipment!
3. Mix contents thoroughly and connect to distillation apparatus.
4. Add boiling chips and heat the flask gently so that the temperature of the distilling vapor does
not exceed 100 °C.
5. Continue heating until only a few milliliters of high boiling residue remains in the flask.
6. Caution: If white smoke appears near the end of the reaction, remove from heat immediately.
The white smoke contains oxides of sulfur which can be dangerous.
7. Dispose of contents in flask by adding 10% NaHCO3 slowly to the flask. After neutralization,
dispose of down the sink. Rinse the remaining residue out of the flask promptly using acetone.
Dispose of acetone rinses in non-halogenated organic waste container.
8. Place the biphasic distillate into a separatory funnel and add 4 ml of saturated sodium chloride.
9. Slowly add 4 mL of 10% NaHCO3 solution to neutralize any traces of acid.
10. Allow the layers to separate, then drain and discard the lower aqueous layer.
11. Pour the organic layer into a clean dry flask and add 0.5 grams of calcium chloride. Swirl for 10-
15 minutes.
12. Decant liquid into a clean dry round bottom flask and connect it to a clean dry simple distillation
apparatus.
13. Collect the product in the range of 79 – 84 °C.
14. Weigh the product and calculate percent yield.
