Rewrite the text in past tense

Use only third person, passive voice, e.g.: “Thirty grams of naphthalene was added 50 mL of m-xylene in a 250 mL round bottomed flask.”

Experimental Procedure
1. Set up apparatus as shown to the right.
2. Add 8 ml of cyclohexanol and 4 ml of glacial acetic acid in a 250 ml round
bottom flask and swirl with whole apparatus Caution: Glacial acetic acid
can cause severe burns to the eyes and skin
3. Then add 25 ml of Clorox and swirl until the fizzing stops and then place
the round bottom in the apparatus shown to the right.
4. Add 40 ml of Clorox in the separatory funnel and make a mark for later,
and continue to add an additional 50 ml Clorox for a total of 90 ml. Then
release to the reaction flask with swirling over 20 min.
5. Keep swirling for 30 min.
6. Add 1 ml of saturated sodium bisulfate to the reaction flask to destroy
excessive bleach.
7. Add 20 ml of 6M sodium hydroxide to the reaction flask to neutralize
excess acetic acid.
8. Keep swirling for 3 min.
9. Set up distillation apparatus, distill with boiling chips, and collect 40 ml of
distillate in the marked separatory funnel.
End of Day 1
10. Add approximately 5 g of solid NaCl and shake.
11. Separate cyclohexanone into a 25 ml round bottom flask, Add 1.5
grams of calcium chloride and swirl for 10-15 min.
12. Decant or gravity filter the cyclohexanone into a pre-weighed
bottle.
13. Weigh the product and check the product with the qualitative 2,4-
DNP test in a test tube.
14. Dispose of everything down the drain.

Answer #1

1.The apparatus was setup as shown to the right.

2.8mL of cyclohexanol and 4mL of glacial acetic acid was added to 250mL round bottomed flask and swirled with whole apparatus.

Caution: Glacial acetic acid may cause severe burns to the eyes and skin

3. 25 ml of Clorox was added and swirled until the fizzing stopped and then placed
the round bottom in the apparatus shown to the right.

4. 40 ml of Clorox was added in the separatory funnel and made a mark for later,
and continued to add an additional 50 ml Clorox for a total of 90 ml. Then
released to the reaction flask with swirling over 20 min.
5. Kept swirling for 30 min.
6. 1 ml of saturated sodium bisulfate was added to the reaction flask to destroy
excessive bleach.
7. 20 ml of 6M sodium hydroxide was added to the reaction flask to neutralize
excess acetic acid.
8. Kept swirling for 3 min.
9. Distillation apparatus was setup, distilled with boiling chips, and 40 ml of
distillate was collected in the marked separatory funnel.
End of Day 1
10. Approximately 5 g of solid NaCl was added and shaked.
11. Cyclohexanone was separated into a 25 ml round bottom flask, 1.5
grams of calcium chloride was added and swirled for 10-15 min.
12. The cyclohexanone was decanted into a pre-weighed
bottle.
13. The product was weighed and checked with the qualitative 2,4-
DNP test in a test tube.
14. Everything was disposed down the drain.
