Psychological psychosis

Psychosis is a condition characterised by the presence of psychotic symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations. People with psychotic symptoms also have impairment in connection with reality.

Nursing Implications

Nursing Implications of Psychological psychosis refers to all things that a nurse should be aware about the condition- Psychosis -and must be resolved by the nurse. Effective therapeutic communication is a major step in assessing and resolving the symptoms of a psychotic person. Listening and acceptance( accept the client as himself/ herself) were two main actions of establishing a mutual trust and confidence in the client. Don't reinforce their delusions ( false fixed belief) and hallucinations by asking deeply about the content and don't spend much time in talking about these delusions and hallucinations. ( necessary questions only for assessing the content of delusion and type of hallucinations can be asked).

Make the patient to engage in some activities or therapies to divert his mind. Don't argue with them or rationalize their delusional or hallucinationatory behaviour. instead convey the acceptance of patient by nurse and tell that the experience are not real for the nurse but she understands how the client got distressed with that. also give simple instructions so the client can follow it.
