Explain the nursing implications of ascites. What would you be worried about with your patient in the acute presentation? What complications could you anticipate the patient developing

Some of the nursing implications are

  • Alterations in vital signs as to be recorded and tracked
  • infection control practice to followed after ascitic tapping to prevent infection
  • there will be a sudden weight loss when the accumulated fluid is excreted
  • provide complete bed rest, mobilising patient may make patient exhaunted and tired
  • In acute presentation the patient may experience severe dyspnea, nausea, vomiting, electrolyte imbalance, Confusion, dehydration ,low BP

Complications like spontaneous bacterial peritonitis,Hepatorenal syndrome,hypotension ,Acute liver failure can be anticipated in these type of patient
