Accepting something we don't agree is not easy. But nobody is perfect, not even me. And hence not necessarily my views are always correct. To be honest it's not about correct or mistake or right or wrong. It's about perception. A person you are talking to may hold different perspective than yours and maybe if you put yourself in their shoes you will understand his view.

Well, I had such an experience when I was having a conversation with a friend. The topic of Male circumcision in Islamic community came out, and I was strongly against it saying that it is violent to child's right since a child is forced to do so. But my friend put forward his view on the matter in a different way. He said although male circumcision is one of the most common surgical procedures performed worldwide with an estimated one in three males circumcised globally , it continues to be a contentious procedure, with equally strong proponents and opponents of this practice. Over the years, recommendations have changed to reflect the available body of scientific evidence. In its most recently published technical report, the American Academy of Paediatricians summarizes that the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks, thus justifying access to circumcision for consenting families. The specific benefits include reduced risk of acquiring of urinary tract infections, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and some other sexually transmitted infections, and penile cancer . In particular, evidence linking male circumcision with decreased transmission of HIV has led the global community to recommend mass circumcision programs as a strategy for HIV prevention. Also circumcision is a part of Muslim Tradition. If they are willing to respect it and perform the procedure, it's their call. But yes it should be safe practice. His argument made me realize that I was correct in my place, so he was. The only thing that we needed was mutual understanding to understand each others point of view. We had a good discussion on it and we ended up agreeing to both.

It felt good. Initially both of us started with a different point of view but eventually ended by respecting each others view. Standing in others shoes lets us have a view of their perspective. Respecting others view is a way to actually see things from a boarder aspect. It enables one to handle situation more maturely and also provides a huge platform for learning new things. There is always a scope of learning new things from others. I didn't know circumcision had health benefits until I had that discussion with my friend. Had I would have just argued with him not listening, I would have lost my chance of learning something new. Knowledge is never limited. And if you are given the opportunity try to gain as much knowledge you can. And the best way to gain new knowledge is by discussion. Let us put forward our own views and then know why.
