Medical management:The patient can be adminstertred paracetamol for fever, combination medicine of montelukast and crtrizine hydrochloride to reduce allergic response which causes runny nose .and warm saline gargles to relieve sore throat.Cough expectorant to remove the productive cough
If the symptoms persisit laboratory workup for Complete blood count which will help us to differentiate whether it's viral or bacterial infection.A sputum culture or throat swab can be done to precisely know the organism or virus causing the infection
Nursing management
Diagnosis 1 Altered body temperature related to bacterial or viral infection as evidenced by a body temperature of 102.4 degree F
Goals: patient has a temperature of less than 100 degree F after 24 hrs
Intervention
Assess the temperature to have a baseline value.
Remove any extra clothing's .
Keep the room ventilated
Adminster antippyretics as per order
Give tepid sponge with cold water
Diagnosis 2 impaired fluid volume balance as evidenced by higher heart rate secondary to fever
Goal:patient has a HR between 70-90bpm after 24 hours
Intervention:Assess the patient intake output to understand a baseline level
Administer oral fluids to prevent dehydration.
Adminster IV fluids if necessary
Encourage having oral soups juices,Coconut water to relieve dehydration.
Encourage warm saline gargles to relive sore throat .
