Answer #1

First of all before assessment and recommendation of a diet plan one should have enough knowledge of balanced diet including carbohydrates, fats ,proteins etc in a proposed quantity to full fill all body requirements.

The diet chart given in question above gives us a rough idea about what subject is consuming nowadays.

To calculate percentage of carbohydrates taken we have to first sortlisted the carbohydrates product and their quanitity.

Grams of carbohydrates listed is multiple by 4.Then this value is taken . Divide Total calories and then multiple it with 100 to convert them in percentage.

* AMDR: It represent acceptable macronutrient distribution range . It gives idea about how much grams or percentage of product is sufficient to full fill body requirements.. Carbohydrates percentage of given subject is calculated and then compare it with AMDR to state that either subject is taking enough carbohydrates or not. AMDR for carbohydrates is 45 to 65% of total dietary intake.AMDR for fat and proteins are 20-25% and 20 to 35 % respectively.

* Carbohydrates (CHO) food contains are as follows:

1) Whole grains: Rice ,wheat, cereals ,etc.

2) Refined Grains : They are further converted accordingly to make them easy absorbable and acceptable for body. E.g Bread, Dairy products etc.

Now the question rises here is that what should be considered as whole grains and what is refined grain. So A) Whole Grain: It's also called as whole grain , is a grain of any cereal and pseudocereal that contains endosperm ,germ and bran. It is associated with lower risk of several diseases.E.g wheat, rice, maize ,barley, oats.

B) Refined grains: It retaines only endosperm other germ etc are removed using many techniques.e.g bread ,pasta, breakfast, grits etc.

As we are seeing in the diet chart subject is having salad 1.5 cup so it is slightly less so more fibres are added to diet . Fiber diet involves: potatoes with skin, carrots , oats , rye ,nuts and seeds. Beeries ,pulses ,water melon , cucumber, green vegetables etc.

* For case of DM we will first make diagnosis that either it is insulin dependent DM or non - insulin dependent DM. General modifications done in a DM pt. Diet are as follows:

1) low carbohydrates diet is recommended.

2) vegetables : a) non-starchy : peppers,tomatoes,carrots etc.

b) starchy:Potatoes,green peas,corn

3) less or minimum fat is advised to take in diet.

4) less sugar assumption

5) protein diet : having lean meat, chicken ,turkey without skin, fish ,eggs , nuts and peanuts, dried beans are advised .

Also with dietary modifications we have also recommend the subject of having adequate excercising, yoga, hypoglycemic drugs can also be administered.
