How often do think a NICU nurse will engage with or witness death in her work? How this experience or the lack of it should shape her view about death?
Ans) In my early career, I used to work as LPN in acute care Nursing home.
- Getting attached to the patients- babies was hard to let go them at times of passing.
- Like seeing them daily was a family in which I used to work. It affected me emotionally at first and being young I was still in the state of myself being invincible.
- After experiencing many death, I had to detach emotionally from this dying process so I could think clearly and make sure I was taking good care of the babies at risk of death.
- What became important for me was not the dying process made me feel but how I cared for them. I wanted to make sure that they had respect and dignity until they deserved till the end.
