Question

3. Imagine a projectile is launche d horizontally and falls to the floor-say a small ball that rolls off the edge of a table. Suppose you measure two distances: the vertical distance h through which the ball fell .e., from the table down to the floor below it the horizontal distance d the ball traveled - i.e., from the point on the floor directly below the table edge to the point on the floor where the ball landed. How can you use these two distance measurements to figure out how fast the ball was moving just before it left the table? Draw a picture showing the initial and final position of the ball. Include a coordinate system in your picture. Then, try to sketch out a plan for how to find the balls launch speed. Write your answer on the back of the page.

THE EXPERIMENT The speed "." of a ball as it leaves the spring gun will be measured by projecting the ball horizontally (0-0) from a table top at a distance H above the floor. The gun is then elevated at a known angle 8. The position of the target is calculated using the measured value of v. calculated time of flight, and the equations of motion. A successful prediction with the projectile hitting the target means that the following concepts...
