2b) The KMnO4 test is positive when the violet color of permanganate dissappears, which is a consequence of its reaction with non-aromatic double bonds in organic molecules. If there are no double bonds or if they are part of an aromatic ring (such as the case of toluene), the reaction does not happen and the color doesn't disappear. For cyclohexene, you should have observed the violet color fading due to the reaction:

OH KMnO Mn2 Violet OH Non-colored

If you saw a dark brown solid, it's probably because there was some kind of contamination in the cyclohexene or in the test tube, since this color is characteristic of MnO2, which is produced in presence of other organic matter.

Unkown was a saturated compound, since the violet color did not dissapear.

3) For household products you got a positive reaction with mineral spirits (thus, it is insaturated) and negative results with motor oil and vaseline (which means they are saturated).
