An older patient reports his vision is good even though he has been diagnosed with glaucoma; his medical history includes diabetes and COPD. He has been taking his ordered daily eye drops sporadically, usually forgetting them. His IOP has not dropped as desired. The patient indicates his friend is taking a different eye drop than him for glaucoma and the timolol maleate is working well. He thinks this eye drop would be better for him. How would you educate him & his spouse regarding: the disease process, how it can affect the patient, and the treatment plan including the eye drops? How can you get his engagement and increase his compliance with the treatment plan?

Firstly I would like to hear all the complaints of patient, after that I will explain his disease condition ro him properly,and treatment for that also will be explained,such as in this case I would like to explain galucoma,its type(open and close) and according to that treatment as well .now come to matter of eye drop,so I wolud likeand to inform my patient that ,the eye drop which is taken by his friend that is having some side effects one of the side effect is breathing difficulty, so my patient is also having COPD so that's why that drug is not being prescribed to him, and it happens sometimes the desired results of drug doesn't meet, so I will perform his eye examination again and if there wil be a need to change the drug I will definitely do that,this all will be explained to patient and I will say him to be patientfull after managing IOP we will go for surgical management. That's all.
