Read Chapter 2 and watch Week 3 Lectures. Choose a contemporary moral issue in our society and apply the ethical principle of Utilitarianism to approve this moral issue. You must pick a moral issue that you strongly support and apply the utilitarian claims (course materials) to back up your arguments. The paper must be done in MLA format with a minimum of 500 words (quotes are not included in the word count). You must apply Bentham/Mill's "Principle of Utility" for 50 points and Bentham's Felicific Calculus for 50 points. Both are under course materials.

Utilitarianism is one of the ethical principles which states that the best action is the one that maximizes utility.

Contemporary moral issues are simply issues which individuals have decided they need to make issues and try to make others believe their point of view. Some of the examples of contemporary moral issues are :-

- abortion

- use of contraceptives

- divorce

- alcohol use

A contemporary moral issue in our society is about the use of contraceptives . For them it's against their culture and values . There beliefs are hurt by the use of contraceptives. By applying utilitarianism theory in this concept we should make the people of the society understand that use of contraceptives are good in many forms like :-

- to prevent unwanted pregnancy

- to prevent sexually transmitted disease

Hence it should be used in maximum to have safe sex and avoid diseases and unwanted pregnancies . Hence ,it will help to decrease the number of population of the country and decrease the demand of resources ,poverty ,enhance health status and increase the productivity of the country .
