Percussion is a method of physical examination to identify the characteristics of underlying tissue by listening to various type of sounds produced while tapping on the body. It aids to understand whether the underlying tissues are filled with air, fluid, or solid material.This method is usually used to examine the abdomen and chest.

Dullness sound These are thudlike sound with medium pitch heard for a moderate duration Thudlike Normal liver and heart (dense tissue)
Flatness sound These are soft high pitched sounds heard for a short period of duration Extremely dull Muscle and bone (solid areas)
