Instructions: Please this class is Motivational Interviewing, it has to do with Counseling a client with e.g. depression, someone who has been exposed to domestic violence, (emotional issues) so when answering the questions, the instructor want the answer that go in that direction and not general answer. Question: According to your knowledge in motivational Interviewing, what are your understanding and/or experience with focusing, its process, benefits, challenges and ethical considerations, etc. How do you evoke a person's motivation? Why is hope important? How is discrepancy developed? What do you see as the benefits, challenges and deficits of developing discrepancy as a method of facilitating change? Counseling a client with depression :

Motivational interviewing is one type of counseling approach, it is developed by clinical psychologist .

It is a directive or client centered approach, helping the clients to resolve their problems.

My experience according to this is we can change or modify the behavior of clients here and we can solve the problem with out being a judgement, we will encourage the client to take their own decisions.

By counseling the client may improved his or her status regarding what ever the problem.

There are so many counseling techniques like behavioral therapy, cognitive therapy, interpersonal therapy, and psychotherapy, for depression patients.

It can give individually, group, and by family therapy because here domestic violence.

Benefits : like

* it will help practically for depression patients.

* it will provide opportunities to the clients explore their feelings and problems.

* counseling can encourage the clients to openup their feelings and development of social affection or skills to develop a communication skills.

* it can teach us how to relax and involve to the client problems .

* it can provide a safe and supportive strategies to over come the problems.

* so that it can provide safe environment to the clients.

Challenges :

* like evidence based practices need to follow then only we can meet our goal.

* it is one of the challenge to do motivational interviewing.

Ethical considerations :

* both family and client willing must be there for counseling,

* before that we need to take written consent from them.

* follow the rights of clients.

By using some of motivational techniques we can improve or evoke the persons motivation like by expressing empathy to listening ,

And by developing descrepancy, client goals and values and their behavior.

We should have to avoid the arguments with clients.

We should have to adjust the clients resistance.

Support self efficacy and support them in optimism side.

By using these techniques we can evoke the persons motivation.

Hope is important, because if how much bourbon and struggle we did also if there is no hope we can not go forward,  

" where there is a will there is a way"

So according to this positive thinking is very important to motivate clients.

Q. No. 4. Answer :

Discrepancy means the difference between clients goals and values and their current behavior.

By asking questions empathetically to the clients related his or her previous behaviour, and current behavior, and I will show different in between them slowly and I will create a changing behavior so that I will develop descripancy.
