Answer #1

Okay, well, before answering this question, I would like to tell you something. Recently, I watched a movie in which a regular police officer allows photographers and media to trespass the crime scene thereby jeopardizing the evidence. Later on, a special crime investigator was called but he couldn't find any evidence due to that police officer's negligence.

Now, why should a evidence-collection unit process a crime scene instead of a patrol officer or detective.

1) First and foremost is preservation of evidence. It is utmost importance to preserve and safeguard the evidence for which they have special training.

2) They usually have neutral approach and perspective towards all the crime means they don't let emotions come in the way. This may not be the case with patrol as they are more familiar with the situation

3) They ensure that no party is able to add or remove relevant evidence to or from the crime scene.
