Epidemiology & Research Design question:
A colleague in your office wants to study depressive symptoms in patients with Cushing syndrome, a rare endocrine disorder. She is considering doing a retrospective database analysis using the local hospital's past year of in-patient data. Is this a good idea? Provide at least one reason why or why not.
A retrospective analysis can enable the researcher to involve or analyze on the subjects from the past and assess their risk factors and the outcomes of it currently. Here this study can enable to identify the symptoms in patients from their past admission in the hospital and the outcome of it currently. This can give a clear understanding of the exposure and the risk factors .It is one of the best idea to use this method to study the rare diseases .There is no possibility for missing out of any follow up if taken from the past than towards any future intervention on the subjects
