In US the incident rate is 0.4 to 0.6% which is nearly 400 to 600 cases per 1 lakh population. (North Americans).In Olmsten one in every 200 individuals. The current status being about 13.9% in 1 lakh population andc12.3 in European country .The condition is increasing worldwide especially in Asia,Africa,Brazil and South America

Predisposing factor

• Genetic or hereditary
• Smoking
• Congenital or immune abnormalities
• Young adult
• Mostly idiopathic
• Medication (Antibiotic, contraceptive pills)
• People living in urban area

Medical therapy

• Anti-inflammatory drugs to refuce inflammation .Sulfasalazine is the preferred choice of medication first to treat the symptoms. (Aminosalicylic acid)
• Corticosteroids
• Antibiotics to prevent infection
• Biological drugs like infliximab is prescribed when others fail
• Anti diarrhoea to relieve loose stools
• Immunosuppressive drugs if triggered by autoimmune system
• Vitamin supplements
• Fluid therapy if severe dehydration

Nutritional therapy

• External nutrition is given to patient when the symptoms are severe and as an alternative for medication
• adding fibre in diet that is a low residue diet is proffered choice yo prevent most of the flare ups
• The patient should avoid alcohol,caffeine, cheese,dried raisins,prune juice,sweets high protein rich food
