Chapter 11 Assignment - Sporting Behavior Please answer the following 5 questions with a detailed explanation: 1. If you could win a gold medal by cheating (and not be caught), would you? 2. If you found $100 in the hall, would you keep it? 3. If you were guaranteed a $1 million contract but had a career- ending injury during your first game, would you take it? What if it were $20 million? 4. Would you report a teammate cheating (in class or by using performance-enhancing drugs)? Would you report him if both of you were competing for the same position? Would you report him/her if he/she was hurting himself/herself? 5. If you could win a national championship but in return had to play for a coach who demeaned you every day and controlled the majority of your day for 5 years, would you?

1st Answer - I would not cheat in any sport as Sportsmanship is about hardwork, talent, practice and perseverance. Winning by cheating would not make me satisfied and I would not know what I am capable of doing. The satisfaction we get from winning a game out of hardwork is awesome.

2nd Answer - If I would find $100 in a public hall I would approach the Helpdesk or Lost and found Helpdesk and hand the $100 to them. I would ensure they make an announcement to find out if anyone has lost their money. If the hall has CCTV cameras, I would check if any comes to collect the money and ensure that the money goes to the rightful owner or else I would drop the $100 into a charity box so that good is done with that money.

3rd Answer - If I had a career-ending injury during my first game, I would cancel all contracts as I would not be physically and mentally fit to live up to the expectation of my sponsorers. I would take time to recoup my fitness and then see if I am able to get back to the sport because I love the game. For me, the satisfaction I get when I play the game matters more than the money I would earn from it. People recognize a Sportsman for their excellence in a game not for how rich they become through a game. People watch games and praise a Sportsman for their skill, hard-work, tactics, behaviour, leadership, determination and enthusiasm towards a game. For example the great cricket player Sachin Tendulkar will be remembered mainly for being a excellent batsman rather than a rich man who drives a Ferrari.

4th Answer - If I got to know that my team mate was taking drugs during a sports competition that I was also part of, I would confront him and tell that what he is doing is not fair. I would give him a warning and then report this incident to the higher authorities so that he would get a good counsellor to counsel him on the effect of drugs on his body.

5th Answer - If I wanted to be a national champion, I would put up with all the struggles that I would have to face while coaching as I believe that achieving Success is not easy but Success comes through struggles, hard-work, determination, practice and perseverance. The demeaning attitude of my coach would only make me stronger as it would motivate me to work harder each day.
