There is a link between smoking, alcohol, stress and heart disease. Consumption of heavy alcohol increases the cholesterol level. High level of cholesterol leads to the development of plaques in the coronary artery. Chronic smoking will lead to breathing problem due to less oxygen supply to the lungs. This raises blood pressure. It results in the respiratory problem of emphysema, bronchitis, pneumonia, and lung cancer. Increased blood pressure will lead to narrow of blood vessels due to the presence of plaques. If it continues, it results in coronary artery disease. Sometimes intake of medicines along with alcohol increases the risk of disease. In addition, stress can raise cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar level which build up the plaque deposits. Stress also decreases the flow of blood and increase the risk of stroke. Thus the Lifestyle habits play a major role in cardiovascular diseases comparing to other causes.
