A client is admitted to the hospital with a medical diagnosis of acute pancreatitis. When caring for this client, the nurse understands that the hormone stimulating the flow of pancreatic enzymes is which of the following?
A. Cholecystokinin
B. Enterogastrone
C. Pancreozymin
D. Enterocrinin
Correct option is context dependent
Option : A and C both are correct
Cholecystokinin hormone is synthesized and secreted by enteric endocrine cells located in the duodenum. Presence of partially digested proteins and fats in the small intestine stimulates secretion of cholecystokinin. As chyme enters from stomach into the small intestine, cholecystokinin is released into blood and binds to receptors on pancreatic acinar cells, ordering them to secrete large quantities of digestive pancreatic enzymes.
Enterogastrone hormone secreted by duodenal mucosa of the duodenum when fat/ lipids in food enters stomach or small intestine. Through blood it acts on glands and muscles of stomach and inhibits gastric movements and secretions therefore slowing gastric emptying and forward movement of chyme.
Cholecystokinin and pancreozymin were previously considered as two separate hormones because two distinct actions -
· Pancreozymin responsible for the release of enzymes from the pancreas and
· Cholecystokinin responsible for contraction of the gallbladder, which releases bile into duodenum,
However, now these two actions are recognized as belonging to one enzyme, now known solely as cholecystokinin.
Enterocrinin is secreted from duodenum and stimulates release of alkaline mucus from the intestinal glands
Hence : both option A and C are correct
