Smoking is a major concern nowadays in pregnant women. It has harmful effects on both the mother as well as the unborn fetus. Hence It is a serious challenge to handle the smoking-related possible complications very effectively in such cases. The two major health imperative effects of environmental and smoking or secondary smoking (is categorized as prenatal and postnatal tobacco or smoking exposure) during pregnancy on an unborn fetus or children are low birth weight (the prevalence is every 1 in five such cases as per the study), morbidity, and mortality. It also affects the intrauterine growth of the lungs. The passive or environmental smoking affects the lungs functioning and also adverse the asthmatic effects in the majority of the population. During the pregnancy, the environmental hazards and smoking put the fetus or the baby at the risks of some severe birth defects. In most of the cases, there are incidences of sudden infant death syndrome. It causes the damage of tissues in a fetus or the unborn baby. It also increases the chances of miscarriage. It also increases the chances of preterm delivery in the affected women. It increases the level of carbon monoxide and hinders the required level of the oxygen. It increases the burden on the circulatory system to compensate this condition. Smoking of tobacco also exposes the certain chemicals which can drastically harm to the unborn fetus or the children. Hence it is advised to avoid such habits for the better and healthy growth of the future of the baby in the pregnant women
