Ankyloglossia is also know as tongue tie, child is unable to lift the tongue and protrude it out from lower incisors.
Following are certain clinical examination points to be considered while diagnosing ankyloglossia.
Patient is unable to maintain oral hygiene.
Patients cannot speak properly certain sounds like D, t, s, Z, th, and l.
Child cannot breast feed properly.
Yes, this problem can be fixed by frenutomy or frenuloplasty.
Former is done through a simple procedure by giving small incision near frenulum even without anesthesia. Later is more extensive and after releasing frenulum recontouring is done by placing absorbable sutures. This procedure is usually done under local anesthesia.
