Ans) If the patient is prescribed 500mg of ceftriaxone IM

Then,

As ceftrixone vial is 1 gm so dilute it with 5 ml & draw only 2.5ml i.e. 500 mg dose with 18 no needle. Change the needle to 23 or 24 i.e. IM needle.

Note: If injecting into the vastus lateralis, ventrogluteal, gluteus medius, or dorsogluteal muscles of an adult, the volume should not exceed 3 mL. If administering an IM injection into a child under age 2, the maximum amount that should be administered is 1 mL.

So here, 2.5ml dose can be drawn up for administering prescribed 500 mg ceftrixone via IM route.
